Session GuestI think the difference between clitoral and vaginal orgasms is something only women can really understand from experience. Whether you are struggling because you cannot orgasm vaginally or you think you already can, there are not many opportunities to hear what it actually feels like for other women. I believe there are several levels of vaginal orgasm, so even if you think, “I can’t have one,” you may actually be experiencing a milder form without realizing it. In this article, I’ll describe the difference between clitoral and vaginal orgasms, as well as the three levels of vaginal orgasm in more detail. I hope it helps.
What Does a Clitoral Orgasm Feel Like?
The stimulation feels intense, and the pleasure seems to burst at the moment of orgasm. It takes concentration to go from being aroused to actually reaching orgasm. To me, it feels like a bubble popping and fizzing away, or like a sudden jolt of electricity. If I had to compare it to pain, it would be more like a sharp sensation.
What Does a Vaginal Orgasm Feel Like?
It feels like pleasure slowly spreading from the vagina and uterus. Before and after a vaginal orgasm, my legs and lower abdomen may keep contracting, and my whole body becomes increasingly sensitive. Once I orgasm, the afterglow lasts for quite a while, which makes it easier to orgasm again.
For me, each time something reaches deep inside, the inside of my body contracts, almost as if all of my energy is being pulled into my uterus until I cannot think about anything else. When those contractions become strongest and my heart gives a sudden thump, that is the moment I feel I am actually orgasming. My body gets hot and my breathing becomes heavy, so even one vaginal orgasm can leave me completely exhausted.
The Three Levels of Vaginal Orgasm
This is just my personal way of thinking about it, but I feel that vaginal orgasms can be divided into three levels: shallow, regular, and deep orgasms.
A shallow orgasm feels like small waves of pleasure. It does not reach the intensity of a full vaginal orgasm, and it tends to happen with stimulation that feels pleasurable but slightly incomplete, such as when I am touching myself. The internal contractions are brief, and I can reach this kind of orgasm through relatively simple stimulation. (For example, simply being touched, having my ears stimulated, or through hypnosis that makes me imagine my hand as my vagina.)
A regular vaginal orgasm has deeper waves than a shallow orgasm and feels almost as though my whole body is being swallowed up by my uterus. The contractions in my lower abdomen are especially intense, and I am usually sore the next day (lol). After a vaginal orgasm, my whole body feels completely relaxed and weak, and simply enjoying that lingering afterglow feels good too. (Examples of when I can have a vaginal orgasm include G-spot stimulation with fingers, deep cervical stimulation, and breast stimulation.)
A deep orgasm is basically a much deeper version of a vaginal orgasm. Each wave feels enormous, almost as though I am being pulled far underground. It becomes difficult to breathe properly, and my consciousness starts to feel hazy.
How Long Did It Take Me to Go from Shallow to Deep Orgasms?
In my case, I understood what a vaginal orgasm felt like during my third or fourth experience. I realized what shallow orgasms were after I had become aware of and learned the sensation of vaginal orgasms, because I then started being able to orgasm from simple stimulation.
I understood what a deep orgasm felt like later, after combining vaginal orgasms with other stimulation such as choking, so that came after I had already learned to experience regular vaginal orgasms.
Even considering both the amount of time and number of experiences, it did not take me very long to go from my first sexual experience to having vaginal orgasms. However, I do not know whether I would be able to have one during sex with someone else. Maybe it is easier for me to experience vaginal orgasms only with a particular person.
After Learning to Have Vaginal Orgasms, Masturbation Was No Longer Enough
Before my first experience, I was a virgin and did not own any toys, so I usually masturbated by touching myself externally with my fingers while fantasizing. Back then, I was satisfied if I could have one clitoral orgasm. I also found that keeping my legs straight made masturbation feel better, and I became very used to doing it that way.
The problem was that it always took me a long time to orgasm, and I could only really feel satisfied with my legs held straight. After that electric jolt of pleasure—the orgasm itself—the sensation often disappeared almost immediately. That created a cycle where I needed stronger and stronger stimulation in order to orgasm.
After these experiences, I became able to orgasm without keeping my legs straight and could orgasm in many different positions. Even when I have a clitoral orgasm, it now blends with the sensation of a vaginal orgasm, so the orgasm itself lasts longer. Because my body remembers what a vaginal orgasm feels like, I can also orgasm more quickly without needing to fantasize. The pleasure is stronger than it was before, and if I really focus, I can even have a shallow orgasm through imagination alone.
On the other hand, I am no longer satisfied with just one orgasm. And even if I insert my fingers, I cannot reach far enough inside to have a deep orgasm, so I often end up giving up halfway through. If I can have sex, I feel satisfied even without masturbating, though. I have wondered whether buying a vibrator or another toy that lets me stimulate the inside as well as the outside might change things. If I find something good, I’ll share it with you!
