I Asked a Participant What Vaginal and Mind-Induced Orgasms Feel Like—and How They Differ

Participant

This time, I’d like to talk about the difference between vaginal orgasms and mind-induced orgasms. I’ll explain what each one is, what they feel like, and what you need in order to experience them in the first place. This is based entirely on my own experience, and I’m sure it varies from person to person, so I hope you’ll read it simply as one person’s perspective.

What Do Vaginal and Mind-Induced Orgasms Have in Common?

The one thing that is absolutely essential for experiencing vaginal and mind-induced orgasms is communication. During sex, this can mean exchanging words that increase your arousal or make you feel cared for, such as “You’re so cute” or “Does this feel good?” But communication is not just about words. Physical affection is also a form of communication. Instead of only stimulating erogenous zones or moving the hips during sex, it can mean gentle contact such as being held or having your head stroked. Without much of that kind of communication, both vaginal and mind-induced orgasms tend to be much more difficult.

Of course, if you are with someone who has a lot of skill and experience, there is still a good chance you may be able to orgasm even when meeting for the first time, when communication would normally be a little awkward. But there is no doubt that feeling that you can trust the other person and feel safe with them is the shortest path to orgasm.

Of course, if the person you trust and can let yourself go with lacks the necessary skill or experience, that can still make things difficult.

What’s the Difference Between a Vaginal Orgasm and a Mind-Induced Orgasm?

With a vaginal orgasm, physical stimulation alone can sometimes make your body orgasm regardless of your conscious intention. In other words, even if you are not actively seeking pleasure, or even if you are not consciously thinking “this feels good,” your body may still respond. You may twitch when touched or start to feel a tingling sensation, even independently of how you feel mentally. Those sensations gradually turn into pleasure.

For me, a vaginal orgasm feels as though the direct stimulation starts deep inside and then spreads throughout my whole body as a warm, lingering sensation. Once I orgasm, my body becomes more and more sensitive. The pleasure keeps going, and I start feeling like, “I want more!” That makes me tighten my vaginal muscles, which only makes the next orgasm come faster and sends me into an endless loop (lol).

With a mind-induced orgasm, instead of orgasming from physical stimulation, you can orgasm through your own imagination. By imagining the way you are normally touched and gradually making that image more vivid, you begin to recreate the pleasurable sensations in your mind.

For example, even if someone is only stroking your arm, you can mentally transform “my arm” into “the place I want to be touched,” which can make your arm feel like an erogenous zone and become pleasurable. This kind of transformation can also happen through verbal suggestion. For example, someone might say, “Your arm is going to start feeling like that sensitive place,” and that can feel like a switch being turned on. (The actual guidance may not be quite this simple, though.)

Once you become accustomed to this, you may be able to orgasm anytime and anywhere through your imagination alone, even without the kind of physical stimulation involved in a vaginal orgasm. The intensity can also vary depending on the person guiding the mind-induced orgasm and on your own state of mind, so it can range from shallow to extremely deep without feeling as though the stimulation is not enough.

For me, during a mind-induced orgasm, my vagina and lower abdomen contract on their own, and my entire vagina feels pleasurable. However, the sensation of pleasure spreading from deep inside throughout the whole body is less pronounced than it is with a vaginal orgasm. In that sense, it feels somewhat more like a clitoral orgasm, where the pleasure reaches a peak and then fades relatively quickly afterward.

That does not mean it is always easy to orgasm this way. If my mood and concentration are not in the right place, the switch simply does not turn on. So a mind-induced orgasm requires both the desire to feel pleasure and enough concentration. When those are in place, I can orgasm repeatedly just like with vaginal orgasms, and it can also develop into something close to a much deeper orgasmic state.

Mind-Induced Orgasms Feel Good, but Vaginal Orgasms Feel More Emotionally Fulfilling

Good communication is the foundation for experiencing either vaginal or mind-induced orgasms. From there, vaginal orgasms can happen when the right areas are stimulated and the body learns to recognize that pleasure. Once you remember the sensations and pleasurable points associated with a vaginal orgasm, your body can also become more receptive to mind-induced orgasms. Eventually, your own state of mind can play a major role in experiencing both.

Being able to experience vaginal and mind-induced orgasms can also improve sexual compatibility with your boyfriend or husband and allow you to explore more pleasurable sex together. Having personally experienced both, I find that orgasming from direct physical touch feels much better than orgasming through imagination alone. With a vaginal orgasm, the fact that my partner is physically inside me also gives me a sense of being filled from within, which makes it emotionally fulfilling as well.

If you repeatedly experience vaginal orgasms with someone you trust, such as your boyfriend or husband, your body gradually learns and remembers the sensation. I think that can help you have even more satisfying sex together.
