Even though many women have heard the term vaginal orgasm, relatively few have actually experienced one. For example, when I ask participants whether any of their female friends have experienced vaginal orgasms, the answer is usually almost none. My impression is that it is probably fewer than one in ten.
Once a woman becomes able to experience vaginal orgasms, she may start enjoying sex even if she never liked it very much before. Some women say they feel like they have discovered a new side of themselves, become more proactive about dating, or change dramatically in other ways.
In this article, I want to explain what an intensely pleasurable vaginal orgasm can feel like and how women may be able to experience one. Even simply realizing that this kind of experience exists may help you enjoy sex with someone you love more than before.
I Asked Women What a Vaginal Orgasm Feels Like
When I ask participants what vaginal orgasms feel like, these are some of the descriptions I hear.
- Feeling as though you are floating in the air or flying through the sky
- Feeling like you want it to stop, but at the same time you do not want it to stop
- It becomes more and more overwhelming, but the pleasure does not stop
- Not even realizing that you are screaming
- Wondering what all the sex you had before was even about
What these descriptions have in common is that the sensation feels very different from previous sexual experiences that were only vaguely pleasurable. It is a kind of pleasure that women can clearly and confidently say feels genuinely good.

Can Anyone Experience a Vaginal Orgasm?
In my experience, most women are capable of experiencing vaginal orgasms. Some can do it during their first session, while others need several experiences before they get there. One woman experienced her first vaginal orgasm during the sixth time we had sex. It really varies from person to person.
For example, one participant was a 30-year-old woman with an average amount of dating and sexual experience. She applied because she thought, “If I was born a woman, I want to experience a vaginal orgasm at least once before I die!” Even so, during her very first session, she was able to experience an orgasm while still fully clothed. It made her wonder why she had spent so long worrying about not being able to orgasm.
Many people probably imagine that vaginal orgasms are strongly related to how many sexual partners you have had or how much dating experience you have. In reality, I do not think those things matter very much. If anything, repeatedly having sex or masturbating in ways that make orgasm more difficult may have a greater effect on sensitivity.
Types of Sex That Can Make Vaginal Orgasms More Difficult
Women who have only had sex while keeping themselves emotionally guarded around men often seem to have more difficulty reaching orgasm.
- Having experience with prostitution or transactional sex
- Faking pleasure or pretending to be aroused
- Faking orgasms
- Being unable to tell your boyfriend what you want him to do or what you want him to stop doing during sex
- Having sex with many different men mainly to cope with loneliness
If you repeatedly have sex like this, your own feelings can gradually get left behind. That can make it harder to let yourself go and experience vaginal orgasms. Quite a few women tell me that they dislike being treated the way women are treated in porn: there is no atmosphere, penetration happens suddenly, or a man aggressively moves his hand around trying to make them squirt and it hurts. When women keep putting up with things like this, they may eventually start disliking sex altogether.
Of course, a woman may struggle to tell a man how she feels because she is being kind or considerate. She may not want him to dislike her or may be afraid of hurting his feelings. But if she cannot communicate honestly about what she wants and does not want, she may gradually become less responsive during sex. It may not only make vaginal orgasms more difficult, but also create emotional distance between her and her partner.
Types of Masturbation That Can Make Vaginal Orgasms More Difficult
One pattern I often see among women who have difficulty experiencing vaginal orgasms is masturbation involving very intense stimulation. A typical example is clitoral masturbation with a powerful wand vibrator. If you become accustomed to stimulation that is much stronger than anything you would normally experience during sex, it may become harder to experience vaginal orgasms. In some cases, reducing or stopping that type of masturbation may help sensitivity improve.
What Actually Happens During a Vaginal Orgasm?
It is the brain, rather than the body alone, that creates truly intense sexual pleasure. That is why, if arousal is gradually heightened through conversation even while a woman is still fully clothed, she may be able to orgasm without direct physical stimulation. This sensation can be incredibly pleasurable. The whole body can begin to feel like an erogenous zone, and some women do not even clearly remember what happened while they were orgasming.
Some women can continue experiencing vaginal orgasms for as long as penetration continues, even without the man needing to move very much. The woman may also feel clearly that her body is reacting without her consciously making it happen.
During penetration, some women can even orgasm simply from the sensation of deep internal contact. Of course, not everyone reaches that level of sensitivity. My impression is that perhaps around half of women have the potential to become that responsive. In particular, women who are emotionally sensitive or strongly influenced by their partner’s words often seem capable of experiencing especially intense sexual pleasure.
How does that compare with the sex you have experienced so far?
The Kind of Movement That Can Help a Woman Experience a Vaginal Orgasm
Very aggressive movement is not necessarily required for a vaginal orgasm. Rather than relying mainly on fast thrusting, gently creating movement and pressure deeper inside can sometimes help a woman move closer to orgasm. The physical movement itself can actually be quite simple.
At the same time, words from the male partner such as “You’re so sexy” or “You look cute when you’re feeling good” may help increase her arousal and make orgasm easier. Reaching a vaginal orgasm during completely silent sex may be difficult for many women. Unlike sex that relies only on physical stimulation, vaginal orgasms can be strongly influenced by what is happening mentally. Rather than focusing only on technical movements or stimulation methods, what matters most is whether the partners are communicating appropriately and responding to the woman’s reactions.
Truly pleasurable sex is built on communication. If you leave everything entirely to your partner or keep part of yourself emotionally distant, it may be difficult to experience deeply satisfying sex.
Experiencing Vaginal Orgasms Can Help You Discover a New Side of Yourself
I cannot say that vaginal orgasms themselves directly caused these changes, but among women who have experienced them with me, there have been cases like these.
One woman had been living an unstimulating life without any particular goals, but after realizing that nothing would change unless she took action herself, she suddenly became much more proactive after the experience and enrolled in vocational school to pursue the career she had always dreamed of.
Another woman quit a job she disliked but had stayed in because the pay was good, and started working in a completely new field she had genuinely wanted to try.
Another finally ended a relationship in which she had always been the one putting up with things, became more proactive about meeting new people, and eventually found a wonderful new boyfriend.
I do not know whether these changes happened specifically because of vaginal orgasms. But at the very least, many of the women who come to see me seem to leave with some kind of new realization. I think one reason is that many of them apply because they have a particular goal, rather than simply because they feel lonely or sexually frustrated. Of course, there are also women who do not experience a vaginal orgasm during their first session or who do not notice any particular change afterward.
Seeing His Girlfriend Genuinely Enjoy Sex Can Be One of the Greatest Pleasures for a Boyfriend
Some women have told me that although they never used to enjoy sex, they eventually came to feel happy about having been born a woman. Hearing something like that makes me feel glad that I do this work. For a man, knowing that a woman is genuinely experiencing pleasure during sex with him can be incredibly satisfying and can give him a lot of confidence. So even for women who never book a session with me, I would be happy if they could learn to have truly pleasurable sex with their boyfriends and feel happier as a result.
- Movement focused more on deeper internal stimulation rather than constant thrusting
- Communication that increases arousal and sensitivity
Basically, those are the main things that matter. I think many women will read this article and still feel skeptical. But even if you simply keep somewhere in the back of your mind that this kind of sexual experience exists, perhaps one day you will be able to experience something wonderful with someone important to you.
